In sequel form to my summer festivals blog post I wanted to offer something to those opposing the large crowds. It may not be everyone's summer goal to spend hours in the heat and attend heavily populated concerts. Therefore, I curated a list for those seeking joy in other aspects such as peace and wellness for the summer months.
Narrowing a list of two international and U.S. locations for those concerning of a budget and not. Take a look and consider these plans for this or next summer:
The Mii Amo Spa Resort in Sedoza, AZ is the perfect oasis of peace and scenery. Named the #1 resort in the southwest by Conde Nast Traveler in 2017, Mii Amo offers seven days of refuge in the red rocks of Sedona. The Manifesting Peace & Joy through the Four Directions is set July 22- 29th 2018. While there you are gifted with juniper beads for protection and guidance and set in the four directions (North, East, South and West) of explorations. If seeking clarity on personal spirit, inner journey, placement within family and elders wisdom then Mii Amo is ideal.
Located in Chiang Rai, Thailand the Museflower Retreat & Spa is perfect for an international summer wellness trip. Thailand itself is a great destination whether in the city or in more secluded areas, Museflower is a great spot to diffuse. Deemed as a peaceful space where people can "learn to reconnect to themselves again", the Museflower offers holistic healing, learning and natural living practices. Those seeking vegetarian, earth friendly and health- conscious factors should consider Museflower. The retreat & spa are open all year round.
Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch
If you're looking for something a bit more rustic and simplistic then Sivananda Yoga Ranch is a great option. Located in Woodbourne, NY the ranch offers a "yoga vacation", according to the site. The inviting aspect is that the ranch is an actual nonprofit organization focusing on the classical yoga teachings. Suited for beginners and advanced, the yoga vacation program is set on 77 acres of nature in the Catskill Mountains all year long. Promising a recharge of energy while also rejuvenating the mind and body the program is set in reptition. Classical yoga, vegetarian meals, vitalizing satsang and karma yoga are recommended twice a day to achieve results. Bodywork and conditioning services are provide as well. The prices are extremely reasonable for a weekend (Friday- Saturday) or weekday (Sunday- Thursday) getaway.
Another bucket list check-off needs to be Africa. Whether it is luxurious or simplistic, a trip to Africa is a must. If you're seeking a peaceful and eye-catching destination the Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat is always an option. Travelling to Clanwilliam, Cederberg Mountains, Western Cape South Africa you will be immersed in the retreat's principles of conservation and compassion. Originally abundant to vegetation, animals and the nomadic Bushman, the land and people fell close to extinction by the 1900's. Years later the land would be restored and extended by refocusing on wildlife and ecology. Rare and endangered animals were placed as well as indigenous flora. Sited by the United Nations World Heritage Committee as a World Heritage Site, Bushmans Kloof continues to preserve it's history. If not yet swayed the Wellness Retreat & Reserve have won awards such as : the Condé Nast Traveller UK Gold List of Best Hotels for Food in Africa, Middle East and the Indian Ocean for three consecutive years. Making lists such as world's best hotel by US Travel + Leisure (2009) Bushmans Kloof's villa style gives luxury while surrounded by a reservation of nature. Make sure to stop by their spa for the tranquility lounge, crystal steam room and take a walk through the spa gardens for a guaranteed well summer.
All wellness journey don't have to begin at a luxury spa or reservation. It can start at home first. Practicing is the first step and commitment sets forth the rest. Achieving a balance of social and spiritual joy is vital for optimizing your time this summer. So if doing a trial run at home first before jetting off to a wellness retreat then so be it.
The first step is the best one.
